What will you do?
Help us build the control systems that make renewable energy truly reliable.
The energy transition depends on more than generating renewable power. It requires smart, robust systems to store and control it. As an Application PLC Engineer, you design and develop the control software that enables advanced flywheel and battery energy storage systems (FESS/BESS) to operate safely, efficiently, and in sync with real-world grid conditions.
From day one, you take ownership of the control layer that brings these systems to life. You think about how the system should behave, both internally and from a customer perspective. How should a flywheel and battery interact under dynamic grid conditions? How do you balance performance, safety, and reliability? You translate these questions into concrete control strategies and turn them into working systems. Your core responsibilities:
- Design and implement control strategies
- Develop and maintain PLC software (Codesys-based)
- Integrate control with mechanical, electrical, and software components
- Translate customer requirements into robust technical solutions
As systems take shape, you validate and improve them. You test components and full systems, support on-site commissioning, and fine-tune performance under real-world conditions. At the same time, you look beyond individual projects and contribute to the bigger picture:
- Identify patterns and improve reusability across systems
- Contribute to standardizing control design as we scale
- Manage and document changes as systems evolve
Why this role is interesting
You don’t work on standard machines, you build first-of-a-kind energy systems. You own how the system behaves, not just the code behind it. Together with the team, you close the loop between design and reality: from concept to commissioning. Your work directly impacts demanding, real-world environments like construction sites and ports where performance truly matters. Everything you build contributes to accelerating the energy transition and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. How you spend your time (on average):
- 40% Programming
- 25% Testing
- 15% Engineering meetings
- 10% Documentation
- 10% Commissioning
Who are we looking for?
An engineer who takes ownership and enjoys solving real-world problems. You are proactive, pragmatic, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment. You don’t wait for everything to be perfect, you start, learn, and improve along the way. Combining a solid theoretical foundation with a hands-on mindset. You enjoy translating complex technical challenges into systems that actually work. You’ll likely recognize yourself in this:
- You enjoy working on problems without standard solutions
- You like combining thinking, building, testing, and improving
- You’re curious about system behavior and control strategies
- You take initiative and feel responsible for the end result
What will you bring?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Systems & Control, or similar
- 3+ years of programming experience in industrial environments
- Hands-on experience with Codesys-based PLC programming
- Experience with control systems (e.g. control loops, system dynamics)
- Experience working with tools like JIRA in a development environment
- Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus)
Nice to have:
- Experience with standardization efforts
- Hands-on engineering experience (e.g. solar teams, robotics, personal projects)
What powers you?
Next to the opportunity to work on groundbreaking solutions that accelerate the energy transition, we offer:
- Salary between €4,100 – €4,750 gross per month (excluding holiday allowance)
- 30 vacation days (based on a 40-hour workweek)
- Pension scheme via Brand New Day
- Travel reimbursement (€0.23/km or full public transport reimbursement)
- Opportunity to participate in the company’s growth through an employee equity scheme (STAK)
- Flexible working hours
- Informal, international, and close-knit team of engineers
- Office within a 5-minute walk of Culemborg train station

What will you do?
You will apply your project management skills to coordinate the design, build, test, and deployment of advanced energy storage systems. The energy transition requires more than just generating renewable power, it demands smart, reliable systems to store and control it.
As a Project Manager, you take ownership of complex flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) and guide them from design through to commissioning. You are a technically oriented project manager who connects disciplines rather than specializing in just one. You use your technical foundation to bring structure, make decisions, and keep projects moving forward in a complex and fast-paced environment. Every system we deliver contributes directly to stabilizing energy grids and unlocking more renewable energy.
You manage 2 to 4 projects simultaneously within a small, multidisciplinary team in a matrix organization. This is not a hierarchical role, you don’t manage people, but you do take full ownership in guiding them. From design to commissioning, you keep projects on track by aligning stakeholders, maintaining clear plans, and resolving issues as they arise. You act as the central point of coordination between engineering, operations, suppliers, and the customer. In practice, this means you will:
- Own the full project lifecycle, including planning, scope, and delivery
- Act as the main point of contact for customers and manage expectations and commitments
- Coordinate internal teams and external suppliers, including procurement and BOM ownership
- Ensure all components, resources, and conditions are in place for successful system build
- Bring structure and clarity to complex projects by defining configurations and next steps
- Step in when issues arise; solving problems, aligning stakeholders, and keeping momentum
- Coordinate testing activities (component, subsystem, and full system level)
- Capture and document learnings to help scale processes and improve future projects
- You will occasionally visit customers, including 1–2 (inter)national trips per year.
What makes this role so interesting?
You will work on first-of-a-kind systems where standard solutions don’t yet exist. That means real ownership and the opportunity to shape how projects are run as the company grows. Direct impact on accelerating the energy transition. Work at the intersection of engineering, operations, and customer delivery in close collaboration with the CTO, especially in the the early stages. A role where you are a driving force behind the company’s success. Your week on track means:
- 25% Procurement & end-to-end coordination
- 20% Internal alignment & team collaboration
- 35% Project planning & scoping
- 10% Customer visits & travel
- 10% Problem-solving & operational support
Who are we looking for?
You see the bigger picture and understand how your work connects to others. You combine technical understanding with strong organizational skills and a pragmatic, hands-on mindset. You are comfortable making decisions, setting priorities, and navigating ambiguity. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and bring structure and calm to complex situations.
What will you bring?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Aeronautical, Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical engineering or similar
- 3+ years of project management experience in a high-tech environment
- Proven experience delivering complex hardware projects from design to commissioning
- Experience with project planning tools and structured ways of working (JIRA)
- Ability to align engineers, suppliers, and customers with different priorities
- Ability to translate technical complexity into clear decisions and actions
- As part of our international team your English is fluent (Dutch is considered a plus)
What powers you?
Next to the opportunity to work on groundbreaking solutions that accelerate the energy transition, we offer:
- Salary between €4,250 – €5,000 gross per month (excluding holiday allowance)
- 30 vacation days (based on a 40-hour workweek)
